As a result of outstanding performance and training, the Spring Lake Fire Department is proud to announce that we have received the results of our Public Protection Classification Survey from the Insurance Services Office Inc. (ISO). The result our PPC grade is now a Class 3/3Y, which is an improvement from our previous classification of 4/8B. The results of this survey come after a review of our department’s operations, planning, training program and record keeping by an ISO Fire Protection Specialist. This is one of the highest insurance ratings for an all-volunteer department by the ISO with only 3.6% of fire departments in the United States attaining such a classification.
We are very proud to have shown that we continue to improve our department’s capabilities to better protect the residents of Ulster Fire District #1. The information gathered and assessed by the ISO directly influences residential and commercial insurance rates throughout the fire district. We are also pleased to announce that this improvement reflect better rates that our district’s residents and property owners pay for personal or commercial property insurance. Out of the almost 50,000 fire departments that ISO surveys nationwide, only approximately 4600 have received a PPC grade of Class 3 or better.
